My name is Stephanie, and I have a son named Quin. I am going to fill you in on why Beginnings was such a big help to me.
I had an unplanned pregnancy. I actually didn’t know I was pregnant until I was six months along. I called Beginnings and asked for some assistance in helping me make the right decision.
Shirley, my Beginnings counsellor, came to my home and spoke with me about the issues I was dealing with. She informed me Beginnings isn’t just an adoption agency; they are also there to counsel you in making the right decision for you. Shirley brought me some books to go through that had topics and questions such as “Values,” “Will a Child Fit into My Life Style?” and “Where am I now?” We talked about my financial status — if I could support my child financially and how I would manage to get by. No sooner did I start answering all the questions in these books, that I had my first ultrasound and suddenly found out I was due in 3 weeks!
I had a lot of decisions to make in a short time. I turned to the books for help and started answering the questions all over again thinking, “Can I do this? Can I really do this?” As I did, I became strong and said, “I can do this,I can be a mother and a very good one!” Shirley came by the next week and I told her I decided to parent my baby. She supported my decision and was proud of me.
I ended up being thirteen days overdue with Quinn and was induced three times. Quinn was born a very healthy baby boy. I am very proud to say, I am a loving and caring mother. I couldn’t ask for anything more or less. He is the best thing that has come into my life. Shirley visited Quinn and me after we came home from the hospital. I am so thankful to Shirley for all of her help and support.
Since, I have gone back to school through the U Turn program, with the support of my Dad and my step Mom (who looks after Quinn while I’m at school). I have completed the Grade 9 & 10 modules for Geography and English and am now starting Math. Once again, thank you to Beginnings for all your help and support! I couldn’t have done it without you.
