CHESHMAK & MICHAEL

Dear Birthparent(s)

We are Cheshmak and Michael. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us as you make some important decisions for yourself and your baby. We hope this profile provides you with a glimpse into what we have to offer your child: devoted, loving and caring parents, a doting extended family, a wonderful circle of friends, and a home filled with love and joy.

Michael introduces Cheshmak

Cheshmak is one of the kindest and friendliest people you could ever meet. She genuinely cares about others and is always looking for an opportunity to be helpful to friends and strangers alike. She is loved by her students who pop by the house to seek her advice, or eat a home cooked meal. She is also smart and funny, curious and adventurous and loves to learn new thing like pottery, cake decorating, crocheting, and most recently wool painting!!

Cheshmak is such an amazing Mom. She’s loving, energetic, creative, patient, affectionate, and really in tune with Kian’s needs. They’ll spend hours playing, singing, crafting, exploring, dancing around the living room, or just snuggling and reading together. On their days together, they enjoy playdates with friends, and fun outings to some of Kian’s favourite places: exploring museums, picnics at the beach, meeting the animals at the farm, and going to the pool and gymnastics. I love being married to her and can’t wait for you to meet her.

Cheshmak introduces Michael

Michael is a wonderful person, husband and father. He is down to earth, with a calm and gentle nature and a hilarious sense of humour!! He is athletic, active and outdoorsy man who enjoys hockey, mountain biking, white water canoeing, and kite surfing. He is also a natural and talented artist who is amazing at sketching and making beautiful things out of wood.

Michael is an amazing, intuitive, affectionate, and hands on Dad who has a really close bond with Kian. He nurtures Kian’s curiosity by doing really cool with him like a trip to the airport runway to see airplanes take off and land (Kian can’t stop talking about it), or taking him on a ferris wheel or making a pillow fort that he can play in or topple! No wonder Kian loves hanging out with him and runs to the door to greet him with a huge hug and kiss when he come home. I’m pretty lucky to be his wife and hope you’ll get a chance to meet him.

Our family

We have been happily married for 12 years with a home that is filled with love and laughter. Through the gift of adoption we became a family of three in 2009 with the arrival of our son Kian.

Kian is a sociable, easygoing, happy, playful and extremely affectionate toddler, with a great sense of humour. Everyone who meets him says he is one of the sweetest, friendliest and happiest toddlers they’ve ever met! He loves being with other children and already has lots of little friends. His enjoys playing, dancing, drawing and painting, reading, running and playing the piano. He helps us make breakfast (pancakes, waffles and French toast are favourites), rake leaves and grass, and not a day goes by that he doesn’t want to vacuum! We’re happy to oblige!

The other member of our family is our 4.5 year old pup. Cassy is calm and affectionate and LOVES people, especially kids and babies. She and Kian are best buddies. She follows him around waiting for him to hug her, throw her the ball or rub her belly, and she is very protective of him which is really sweet to see.

We both have loving and supportive families we see often. Kian is doted on by two sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and our huge extended family around the world insist on regular emails and pictures to keep up with his antics.

We hope to have another child join our family to love and build memories with as a family of four. We’re happy that the nature of Cheshmak’s work allows her to be home with Kian (and our future children) for most of the week as well as summers.

Our Lifestyle

Family, friends and our faith community play an important role in our lives. We enjoy an active and relaxing lifestyle with lots of time spent with family and friends enjoying family oriented activities. In warmer months, we spend lots of time outdoors canoeing, camping, hiking, walking by the river, swimming in our pool, having picnics in parks and by the beach, heading to the splash pad and playground, and going to fairs and farms. When it starts to get cold, we enjoy skating on the canal, hot chocolate in hand, regular visits to the city’s museums, playdates at friends’ homes or Cosmic Adventures, weekend getaways, and reading by the fireplace.

We also love to travel and explore beautiful places and cultures in Canada and abroad. Kian is a seasoned traveler having already visited Greece, France, and the southern United States. This summer we will be going to British Columbia and Seattle to visit with family and friends.

Both of us are very social and hospitable so our home is often filled with neighbours and friends who will regularly pop by for a backyard barbeque/pool parties, and Cheshmak’s students who come by to say hello and visit over a cup of tea.

Parenting

We view parenting as our most important role and our parenting style revolves around nurturing our children with unconditional love, support, affection, encouragement and humour while providing a healthy routine, establishing clear and consistent expectations, and offering gentle guidance. We think it’s important to teach our children about the beauty and wonders of the world and encouraging their inquisitive nature with lots of fun activities and interesting life experiences, while instilling in them the desire to contribute to the world around them by making a difference whenever they can.

We also believe in cultivating positive personal qualities in our children such as kindness, consideration, courtesy, creativity, and friendliness. We often use creative, fun and age appropriate ways such as storytelling, books, and puppets to encourage these qualities. Most importantly, we strive to model these in ourselves.

Open Adoption

We are very proud to be a family through adoption and enjoy a wonderful open adoption with both of Kian’s birthparents. We engage in various forms of contact including emails, letters, pictures and visits. We would welcome a similar relationship with you and your family so that your child can have a connection to his/her birth family and develop a healthy and positive understanding of the decision which you are making. Off course we will be respectful and understanding of your wishes regarding the amount of contact you are most comfortable with.

See you soon!

Thanks again for taking the time to learn about us. We hope that as you learn about us, you will recognize the loving, active, adventurous and fun family you’ve been looking for to raise your child. We wish you the very best and we look forward to hearing from you soon and answering any questions you might have.

Take care!
