ANNA & DAVID

Hi!

We’ve often said that our relationship was meant to be.  We’ve also known that we were meant to be parents.  We both love to spend time outdoors, enjoy travelling and exploring the hidden wonders in the cities we visit.  Anna is creative and crafty and Dave loves to both watch and play sports.  And we never take a long car trip without our IPod, full of our very different tastes in music.

Pleased to meet you…

We have been together for 7 years; wonderful years filled with work and play, having fun as long as we are together. As both a couple and individuals we cherish the love and commitment of our family and friends. The importance of honesty, respect and a strong work ethic play an important role in our lives.  We love the times that we share together, discovering new things about each other and the world around us.  But we also long to expand and change from being a get-up-and-go couple to a family of three.

Our home is also ready to welcome an addition.  We live in one of the many suburban communities in Mississauga.  We have a 3 bedroom, detached home with a good size backyard to play in and a tree that is just perfect for an infant/toddler swing!  Some of our neighbours are just starting their families and have small children.  We are also within walking distance to the park as well as the local elementary school.

Anna:

I am a high school Social Science Teacher but I also have an honours degree in Music Education.  Early in my teaching career I realized that History was my true passion and I never regretted the switch.  When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy a variety of hobbies.  One of my favourite things to do is scrapbooking.  It allows me to be creative with each new page and relax with friends, but most of all, spend some quality time with my Mom.   I’m slowly improving my photography technique, for both scrapbooking and just the joy of getting “the perfect shot.”  Since we love to travel, that’s a talent that has become a necessity!!  I also enjoy curling up with a good book – usually romantic fiction, but I’ve also enjoyed the occasional mystery or a life-lesson story.   And David says one of my greatest talents is that I’m an “Elite Level Shopper”!  But I think it’s that I’ll make a great Mom, and know in my heart I will be, when the time is right.

Dave:

I am currently a retail manager for a small clothing chain.  I also have a degree in and a passion for history, especially American History.  I’ve recently gone back to school part-time; my long-time dream to also become a Social Science teacher will soon be a reality!  School and work keep me very busy, but I still try to find time to do the things I enjoy most.   I usually relax by keeping track of what’s going on in the world of sports.  If I could, I would play hockey every day, but I’ll settle for watching the Leafs play.  My other favourite underdog of sports is the Washington Redskins (NFL).  I’m an American Civil War buff who belongs to a re-enactment group that is based out of Toronto.  I enjoy traveling, especially to the American South, whose history I find fascinating.  And when I’m driving, I’ll unwind by listening to my IPod, with a very eclectic range of music, from classical to RAP!  Anna often teases me about being a big kid when it comes to some of my music interests.  But I think that’s what will make me a great Dad, I’m just a big kid at heart…look out for the “Tickle Monster”!!

Family and Friends:

Our families play a great role in our lives.   All of Anna’s family live in Mississauga and Dave’s family are close by in East Toronto.    We communicate with both of our mothers daily and see all of our family members as often as we can.  Dave has only one sister, married with three kids.  Anna is the youngest of 4 kids, all married, two with children.  Family gatherings can get loud, full of fun, laughter, heated debates, frank discussions and lots of activity; it just depends on the occasion.  Holidays are extra special and we share our time between both families.

Our many friends are scattered all around the Greater Toronto Area, and some are even further, but are still close to us by way of a phone call, email and now through Facebook – how modern of us!  These friends are a wonderful extension of our families and we are Auntie Anna and Uncle Dave to many of their children.  It is great fun getting together with them for an afternoon visit, an evening of family fun or a “family” vacation weekend.

This remarkable support network of family and friends are excited and supportive about our “family plan”.  They, too, are looking forward to meeting the newest addition to our family.

Us…as a couple:

We met in May 2003 and knew almost right away that we had each found our “forever” person.  Dave proposed a year later and we were married on the anniversary of that proposal in May of 2005.

One of the things that helped us to connect was our shared religion and faith.  We are Catholic and value a way of life that includes honesty, respect and helping others.  Both at work and in our everyday lives we try to make this a part of our daily lives.  Dave is an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, helping those less fortunate through financial assistance, bringing hope to their lives.   Anna teaches at a Catholic school and is an active member of its community, supervising activities and interacting with teenagers in the hopes that they too will get involved in their community.

While our backgrounds are different, we had similar upbringings.  Our parents instilled in us how important it is to have a strong work ethic.  We both work hard at our jobs, tackling each new challenge our jobs have, and some days there are a lot! What helps both of us survive the hard days is knowing that we will soon be together.  We enjoy sharing stories about our day during dinner, laughing and sometimes crying, about the things we went through.  Parenting will be a new challenge, but it is one that we look forward to tackling, together.

Our favourite time of year is when we finally get a way from the everyday stuff so that we can take a trip somewhere in North America. The destination must fit three criteria – a little history, some whimsy and fun, and a lot of walking…so that you can really “soak it all in…”

Welcoming YOU!

Adoption was not our original family plan, but we firmly believe that it is the plan God had in mind for us. We cannot wait to open our hearts to not only your child but also to you!  Without you in our lives, we would not be a family…   It is our hope to build a relationship with you; one that will allow for a continuous connection to this precious child.  We look forward to the time when we can share each day as a family of 3, but we cannot do that unless you become an extended member of our family.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us.  Let your heart lead you to the best relationship for both you and your child.   Hopefully that relationship and connection is meant to be us!
